Davidson Glacier with Researchers, Near Skagway, Alaska September 2006

This is a portion of the Davidson Glacier. There are three glacier researchers hiking about one third up the center of the image. Like many southeast Alaskan glaciers, the Davidson is receding. When John Muir visited it in the late 1800s, it reached into the Chilkat Inlet. Now it has receded 1-2 miles from the inlet.
