On the park road, Stony Hill provides the first look at Mount McKinley from its base. The mountain's base is about 2,000 feet above sea level and it South Peak rises 20, 322 feet. The foothills at its base are above the Denali tree line at about 2,000 feet. Its massive presence modifies the weather around it as evidenced by the clouds which typically shroud its summit.
