Old Don Bridge, Aberdeen, Scotland May 2008

This bridge over the River Don in north Aberdeen construction was started in the 12th century. Also know as the Brig of Balgownie, it was for a long time the only easy method of crossing the River Don unless one travelled much further inland. It was therefore of primary strategic significance and includes defensive parapets along each side.
