To enter most of Canyon de Chelly or Canyon Del Muerto, one needs a Navajo or park service guide. However, you can climb down from the canyon rim to the Anasazi White House Ruins without either. The White House ruins are named for an Anasazi building that was once painted white. The climb down (and do not forget back up) leads through several rock layers: a capstone of Shinarump Conglomerate followed by de Chelley sandstone and finally, exposed at the bottom in some locations, is the Supai formation. This image was taken very near the canyon rim.
