Seville is approximately 2200 years old and, according to myth, was founded by Hercules. The Phoenicians named it Spal and the Romans changed the name to Hispalus. It was occupied by the same waves of religious peoples that settled in southern Spain. At four square kilometers, it qualifies as the third largest old town in Europe.
