Carmona is another fortified hilltop city in Andalusia. Carmona has been continuously occupied for more than five thousand years. It was first organized into a city by the Phoenicians. The Carthagenians followed. The name Carmona is said to have been derived from the words "Kar" and "Hammon". The latter was the sun god worshipped in Carthage, thus meaning city of the sun god.
